For 50,000 years or more, humans have gathered to bang on drums, sing together, and reach an altered state that heals and connects us.
In the pursuit of this ceremony, The Boom Booms have honed their skills over nearly 20 years.
Folk, Reggae, Rock, Latin, African, Funk and more influences give dancers a buffet of grooves to gorge on. By the end of the show, the crowd will be jumping side to side in unison be hush quiet down on the floor before roaring back to life.
The songs, though often delving into deeper themes, all resoundingly land on a hopeful, uplifting note.
Childhood friends from East Vancouver, the band formed in 2008 in between tree-planting contracts. They began throwing block parties and then left on a 6 month hippie-bus, book-as-you-go tour from Vancouver to Brazil. They later busked around Europe before “getting serious.” Success in the Peak Radio Band Competition brought them radio play and recognition that jump started their career and soon the calendar was full of festivals, and then US tours.
They continued throwing block parties, and even a festival, devoting their time to the environmental movement, and even made a documentary in Brazil which highlighted Indigenous people’s struggle against the Belo Monte Dam.
Now, well into their “grown-ass-man” chapter, the pan is fully seasoned and with the spark of (near) sobriety, they are tighter and fresher than ever, which is evident on their latest single “Miracle Man” , an arena-folk song with world rhythms (think Coldplay meets Merengue) that has been getting an incredible reaction from crowds.
