Django’s Jewels
One of Western Canada’s most exciting gypsy jazz ensembles, Django’s Jewels brings the infectious swing of Django Reinhardt’s legendary manouche jazz together with influences from Balkan music, surf, early American jazz, and beyond.
Led by Aaron Loewen (Okanagan, BC) on guitar and vocals and Cam Boyce (Vancouver Island, BC) on violin and vocals, the Jewels are backed by a rotating cast of exceptional jazz musicians from around British Columbia. The result is a lively, ever-evolving ensemble with a sound that is as virtuosic as it is irresistibly fun.
Drawing inspiration from the hot jazz and swing traditions of the 1930s and ’40s while putting their own distinctive spin on the music, Django’s Jewels have performed at festivals including the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Tofino Jazz Fest, Woodstove Festival, and April in Paris Vancouver, among others.
Their 2024 album, Live From The Hot Dog Stand, captures the spontaneous, energetic spirit that makes the Jewels so compelling live.
These are musicians who can absolutely dazzle with their playing—but they never let the virtuosity get in the way of the groove. Expect catchy rhythms, infectious melodies, swinging strings, and a whole lot of personality.
Whether you’re a lifelong jazz fan or simply someone who loves great live music, Django’s Jewels are guaranteed to get your toes tapping.
