WILD T & THE SPIRIT
There are guitar players… and then there’s Toney “Wild T” Springer.
Born in Tunapuna, Trinidad, and raised musically in Toronto, Wild T has spent more than three decades carving out a place as one of Canada’s most distinctive and electrifying blues-rock guitarists. His sound carries echoes of Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz and Eric Gales, but his musical journey began with an unlikely inspiration: Steve Howe of Yes, whose playing first inspired Toney to pick up the guitar.
By the mid-1980s, Wild T was already making serious waves on the Toronto music scene, earning recognition as Best Guitarist at the Canadian Black Music Awards. From there, his career took him into the orbit of some of the biggest names in music.
Jeff Healey was an early admirer, famously praising Toney’s imagination, emotion and musicianship. David Bowie was equally impressed. After seeing Wild T’s “Midnight Blues” video, Bowie invited him to play guitar on his acclaimed Black Tie White Noise album. Wild T subsequently appeared alongside Bowie on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman and The Arsenio Hall Show, as well as in the making-of documentary for the album.
And that was only the beginning.
Wild T & The Spirit went on to sign with Warner Music Canada, releasing the albums Love Crazy and Givin’ Blood. Love Crazy reached #1 on the Canadian CanCon chart, while Givin’ Blood earned a Juno nomination. The band also hit the road with Bon Jovi, toured extensively across Canada, the United States and Europe, and Wild T later spent time in Chicago working alongside some of the greats of the blues.
But for all the accolades, collaborations and legendary names, Wild T’s greatest reputation has always been built where it matters most: on stage.
His guitar playing is fearless, soulful and explosive, combining technical brilliance with genuine emotion and an unmistakable sense of spontaneity. Every performance is a conversation between the musician and the audience — full of fire, feeling and the kind of raw energy that can only come from an artist who has lived the music.
Wild T & The Spirit are Canadian blues-rock legends — and this is a show you’ll want to experience live.
