Kuja
Kuja translates to “of the earth.” For us, music provides us with the essence everything: our instruments, traditional music roots, and many more lessons that could get very deep.
Collective
Our dream for Kuja is for it to be an ensemble of musicians who share a love of music. With the foundation being FUN, the style of musicianship is jamming, experimenting, and foot stomping. Our musical community can ebb and flow, whether the instruments come from trees or not. We do not discriminate.
Bio
When Kuja Collective is spinning their sounds, you can bet that faces are smiling and feet are stomping. This group, hailing from Penticton, is a true embodiment of eclectic acoustic sounds with a unique blend of Celtic, Pop, and Metis music. Known for their traditional jigs and reels, Kuja has mastered the art of reinventing popular tunes to create a nostalgic yet new musical experience.
Fahlon grew up on Vancouver Island in Parksville, B.C. At the age of 9-years-old, she began learning the fiddle and was quickly drawn to traditional Celtic and Metis tunes. She would busk at the Coombs “Goats on the Roof” Market, putting the money earned towards her violin lessons and college funds. While completing a Bachelor of Music at the University of Victoria, Fahlon met and fell in love with Blake Palm (guitar), who was also completing his BMus. Fahlon and Blake joined forces and began busking together, drawing on their shared love of traditional Celtic music. The two of them got married and settled in Blake’s hometown of Penticton, B.C. Their musical journey as Kuja Collective continues to grow and thrive.
Kuja is a collaborative collective that thrives on exploring new sounds with other local musicians in the Okanagan Valley. The individual musicians have an impressive musical resume, including cross-Canada tours, performances with some of the top musicians in Canada across various genres, numerous music festivals, and award-winning performances. They continue to view Kuja as a new adventure, combining eclectic styles and creating music for the sheer joy of it. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience Kuja’s unique musical magic!
